Connecticut Domestic Worker Campaign Organizing Coordinator

Bridgeport, Connecticut

Position: Part-time

Position Summary:

The Campaign Coordinator will be expected to: 1) work with the Executive Director, our lobbyist, and allies to develop legislative strategy for the Bill of Rights campaign; 2) coordinate the implementation of strategy, and monitor campaign work plans and timelines; 3) do outreach and organizing work with domestic workers to prepare them for full participation in the campaign; 4) design external communications and take a lead role in media work; 5) help the Executive Director identify and forge strategic alliances; 6) prepare and support Coalition members to take leadership within the campaign; 7) coordinate in-district meetings with legislators, local community members, organizations, organized labor, and faith communities; and (8) take leadership in preparing coalition organizations and workers to participate in legislative hearings; and (9) help organize and lead campaigns to secure city resolutions in support of passage of the Bill of Rights at the state level.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee outreach, and support organizing efforts, movement-building, and training for new and old workermembers
  • Design and coordinate policy and strategy with the ExecutiveDirector
  • Maintain communication with coalitionpartners
  • Represent the BWC in Hartford, and in meetings andevents
  • Coordinate media work and other external communications, including use of socialmedia
  • Identify new strategic alliances and devise plans for forging these alliances
  • Design and coordinate responses to oppositionarguments
  • Monitor, adjust, and evaluate campaign work plans and timelines with the ExecutiveDirector
  • Work in close coordination with organizingstaff

Job Requirements:

  • 1 or more years of experience in public policywork
  • Experience working on a statewide policycampaign
  • Familiarity with grassroots organizing andbase-building
  • Understanding of issues facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities,and other communities of color
  • Strong relationship- and coalition-buildingskills
  • Good communication skills in spoken and written English
  • Proficiency with computer operations andprograms
  • Good organizational skills and attention todetail
  • Creative problem-solvingabilities
  • Ability to work as part of a dynamicteam
  • Dedication and ability to work flexiblehours
  • Bilingual Portuguese and/or Spanish
  • Authorization to work in the United States
