Driving Families Forward

The Brazilian Worker Center (BWC) is very proud of the work that our Executive Director, Lenita Reason, co-chair of the Driving Families Forward coalition, has effectively carried out. Following the organization of three coalition-led virtual legislative sessions with representatives from key sectors on the 25th, 31st of January and 1st of February, the Work and Family Mobility Act (Driver’s License Campaign) received unprecedented support both inside and outside the State House, including endorsement from Law Enforcement representatives from several cities in the State.

With this endorsement and the support of Rep. William Straus, the House Chair of the Joint Committee on Transportation, the House Speaker Ron Mariano, representatives Michael Moran, Christine Barber, and Tricia Farley-Bouvier, and other members of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, we have witnessed the highly anticipated passing of the Work and Family Mobility Act on February 16th. This represents a major step for all qualified Massachusetts residents to obtain permission to apply for a standard state driver’s license.

We are working tirelessly to get the Senate leadership to put the bill to a vote as soon as possible. The Driving Family Forward coalition led by our director Lenita Reason and the SEIU 32 BJ Union is working to secure the approval of this project, which will greatly benefit the lives of families and all residents in the state.
