What We Do

Immigration

Navigating the U.S. immigration system can be overwhelming, especially for those facing language barriers, misinformation, and limited access to affordable legal services. At the Brazilian Worker Center, we are committed to empowering immigrant workers by providing legal education, referrals, and advocacy to ensure they have the knowledge and resources to protect their rights.

  • Legal Education and Referrals
Our program offers comprehensive legal screenings, helping immigrants understand their eligibility for visas, work permits, asylum, and other immigration benefits. We provide accurate information to dispel misinformation and connect individuals with pro bono and nonprofit legal service providers for asylum cases, pro se application support, full legal representation, and more.

  • Know Your Rights Workshop and Clinic
Understanding legal protections is essential for immigrant workers. Our Know Your Rights (KYR) training educates participants about their legal rights when interacting with local law enforcement. We distribute educational materials, such as “Rights Cards” for rapid response, instructions on handling legal situations, and guidance to prevent Notario fraud.

  • Community Outreach and Accessibility
We strive to reach low-income and underrepresented immigrant communities, ensuring equitable access to legal assistance. Through partnerships with community-based organizations, legal service providers, and government agencies, we expand our outreach efforts. Additionally, we are upgrading our website to include translated materials and a QR code system for quick access to legal resources.

By equipping immigrants with the tools and knowledge to navigate the legal system, the Brazilian Worker Center strengthens communities and advocates for a more just and inclusive society.
